I haven't ever had to stop someone from it. But I have helped clean up after a messy suicide before. My neighbor did it with a shot gun in his mouth. His step daughter (my age) found him. My parents and I helped to clean up the mess of what the coroner didn't take with him. We felt that his wife didn't need to come home and see that mess. I won't get into the gory details, but it was not a nice picture.
My wife has two cousins commit suicide. One was definitely that, as he left a note. The other COULD have just been a moron playing Russian Roulette.

No but I've called the mobile crisis team to evaluate them to see if they need to be brought to the hospital. Or I've brought them myself. Sometimes that's a way to get someone to pay attention to them. Plus usually if someone is going to commit suicide, they don't tell anyone beforehand. But all claims should be taken seriously, whether you believe them to be true or not.

Yes you can! You can be there for them and talk them through it! Dont let them go through with it or it will be eternal damnation for there soul... God does not forgive people who take there own lifes.. But he can forgive you for ANY sin that you have commited.. no matter how bad you may think it is or how unforgiveable and how dirty you may think you are... Atleast 5 of my friends in my life have told me that they would of commited suicide if it wasnt for me in there lifes. Please just be closer to them then a brother.. Then there own parents help them no matter what! You can do it!

I used to do it every day at work. Answering calls from people in distress. I've stopped people from drowning, hanging, overdosing etc. You get used to it after a while but at first its really scary!

You can stop the event ..... I know. You can't stop the problem .... the problem is what triggers the event. Each person has thier own problems to solve and cope with.
Congrats on being in the right place at the right time ...... You bought that person time to solve thier own problems.

Almost. I was coming through the front door when I heard the gun go off. It still bothers me and that was 25 years ago.
