The 2nd Amendment needs to be strengthened. Not enough people have been killed this year - we need to remove all the red tape surrounding gun ownership so that we can really get down to the business of killing each other.....

Am I the only person having this nightmare?

Raton - I am obviously being facetious. You don't know if I'm liberal or conservative....

However - it IS important to have these debates.

In practically every case this year of mass shootings, the guns have been obtained illegally. Changing gun laws and the second amendment won't change anything, except make it harder for sane, legal citizens to obtain a gun for sport, or self defense, just easier for the criminals to use them against an unarmed public.

Recently, a Wisconsin Deputy Sheriff shot and killed seven people in a mass shooting spree. What does this tell you? It tells me that you have NO hope of taking handguns out of the hands of people that will use them for murder. I would personally rather concentrate on putting guns into the hands of law abiding citizens that can and will help in times of emergency, like this person here; http://www.wate.com/Global/story.asp?S=2965720
Anyone that thinks they can mandate gun control legislation and have a person follow that legislation just because "its against the law" has got to be the most naive person on the planet. Our Forefathers recognized the fact that an unarmed citizen is a victim and that's why they came up with the 2ND Amendment. That's why I wholeheartedly support the NRA.
So your nightmare is actually my dream.

I say we make it impossible for any law abiding citizen to own a gun. Only the criminally insane should be allowed to carry a gun. While were at it, lets take away all cars! Only the criminals get cars but you can't pull them over and arrest them unless they are doing something illegal in the presence of an officer. If the office isn't present when the illegal activity takes place then if they can't prove it, the guy walks! On top of that, any criminal that is not doped up on PCP/Angel Dust will get fined for not making them selves more dangerous!

You seem to be.

In 1991, a gunman entered a Luby's restaurant in Killeen Texas. 24 people died. Several of the diners inside the restaurant had weapons left behind in their vehicles because carrying a concealed weapon was illegal at the time.

A couple of the survivors even stated, for the record, that they would have been able to minimize the tragedy if only carrying a weapon had been legal.

Texas has since institued legal "Conceal and Carry" laws. You take a class, pass a background check, and you are allowed to carry a weapon around.

Since then, Texas has seen a substantial DECLINE in handgun crime. It seems that criminals are afraid to attack people when they can never be sure which "victims" are going to return fire.

It all goes back to the old addage--Outlaw guns and only the Outlaws will have them.

(Washington DC has had strict handgun bans in place for years, yet consistenly has the highest rates of handgun crime...)

Perhaps you should ask yourself "what to do?" when 'only' people willing to break laws and kills others have firearms?

Or ask yourself 'How many legal citizens protected themselves with thier firearms this year?"

I had a man break into my home in 1991 in Fayetville N.C. He entered the kitchen and immediately headed towards the living room and from there the hallway that led to my childrens rooms and my own. He saw me at the end of the hall, firearm in hand before my childrens door waiting. He was a 'Large' man, over 6 feet tall and approximately 250 pounds. He chose to depart at a high rate of speed out of the house. No, I did not take his life. I protected the life of my child.

A citizen in the united states has the right to protect themselves.

Period.

Notice how many of the shooters were know to have mental problems. I wish we could get rid of guns, but we can not. Instead we need to improve our public mental health access to get these disturbed people help or off the streets before this happens again.

I would be all for taking away guns

But first I want the criminals to give up their guns

Then I want all criminals to serve their entire sentences (no parole or time off for good behavior)

and finally I want a death penalty that is enforced swiftly and frequently

even with strict gunlaws, criminal minds find a way to obtain them.
In canada we have very strict laws, and yes it has helped, but there is always that underground place where you can find a piece if you really want one....
if people want to shoot people, they will always find something to do it with.
I don't think arming everybody is the answer.....
I think it causes fear in the populace and only will make the situations worse with the public....

I think we need to teach unity rather than competition

help take care of the children of the culture

the children have poor role models and lack attention (as in attention from an adult)
