It's thankfully not a common event for some armed nutjob to go in a crowded shopping mall and cap off people like it's no bag limit hunting season. Therefore, I can understand the media sensationalizm of the event. However, I do take a firm clear stand against OVER media sensationalism.
The gunman was a nutjob who was so deep into his mental illness--he really did feel he had nothing left in life to lose. He felt like a pitless loser; someone who so badly wanted his 15 minutes of fame. If he and the Virginia Tech gunman both were kept alive and psychologically studied, doctors would be in accord that both had the same mental meltdown issue.
My heartfelt prayers to God go out to the surviving family of the victims.
As for the store / mall : I'm sure they're in conference with their legal eagle team, braced for pending Civil lawsuits sure to follow. The low wage private security serivce hired by the mall also is in conference with their legal eagles as well.
Shopping malls retain services from low wage private security companies--whose officers are all but powerless in protecting the mall, the businesses in them and the shoppers--as evidenced by this tragedy.
I'm not opposed to the idea of all shopping malls beefing up security, where metal detection scan stations are posted at main mall entrances, much like those in place at major amusement parks. How nice it'd be to have Homeland Security shower ALL U.S. shopping malls with the high-tech security hardware to prevent gunmen from killing innocent people.
You can bet major terror groups like Al-Quiada are high-fiving this nutjob gunman as a hero. And the mall gunman IS a terrorist. And a good terrorist is a dead one--so he did us all a favor by suicide, for he can no longer hurt anyone else.
