I'm not discrediting football because I'm from Dallas so naturally I'm a Cowboy fan. However, I've never heard of a hockey player not playing because of turf (or ice) toe. Another instance, hockey is on going. A typical football play last 15-20 seconds and then they let the clock go 40 seconds. Every football player wears a face mask, a few hockey players wear a face mask. In football if you fight you're kicked out of the game and suspended, in hockey when you fight it's a 5 minute penalty. In the NFL you have to be out of high school for 3 years. It's an NFL rule, that has nothing to do with toughness. Also NFL scouts DO NOT go to high school football games.

Hockey is more grueling, but I'd still go with football as a the tougher sport because of the violent impacts. Sure, it hurts when you get lined up by a guy while you're skating with your head down, but that doesn't compare at all to being hit by a hard-changing safety as you come across the middle for a pass.

I love both sports, but my experience is that I was much more sore after playing football. That's why they can only play once a week - their bodies need that time for recovery.

I agree with you overall, but football is not baseball either. Take an offensive lineman for example. Lets say your team runs 55 plays on offense in one game. The lineman has physical contact on every one of those plays. Hockey players don't get hit 55 times a game. Hockey is tougher overall, but certain positions in football have it worse than others.

Hockey is the toughest game in town!! Can someone tell me what turf toe is? Football players get a sprain ankle they're out for 2 - 4 weeks. Hockey player gets a stick in the face and bleeds all over the ice. He goes to the locker room gets his stiches and returns to finish the game.

I'd say football is more intense over the course of a game, especially if you have to play a physical position.

Over the course of the season and playoffs though, hockey definitely requires a little more toughness and mental fortitude.

I think the each have their own conditions that make ti hard to compare. I can't say which is more physically trying, hockey defonately has the more intense schedule. I agree. I wonder if the combination of skating your tucas off and getting hit, etc. is comparable to the idea that you're running on foot and getting hit more often. I don't know, but people who participate in either sport are no joke.

Hockey is tougher but imagine you had to hit someone on mostly every play like an O-Lineman or D-Lineman.Very tough.

While I agree, the average career for an NFL running back is something ridiculous like 3 years, not like it is a pansy sport either. Although Aussie rules football players/rugby players will argue otherwise.

But research also suggests that the average football tackle is about the same as getting into a car accident.
