I saw this item on RDS and my French is not good, but the Buffalo Sabres will no longer be associated with the Rochester Americans is what I got from it. Why would the Sabres give up on a well-attended AHL team in their own backyard?

The owners of the respective teams are having money issues with one another, both claiming the other owes them money.

Apparently, the Amerks are close to bankruptcy, and feel the Sabres owe them money.

Golisano on the other hand, says the Amerks owe them money.

I spoke to Jody Gage last week, and he painted a rosier picture than what is actually the case.

I've also heard RUMOURS (I have no proof) recently that Golisano has talked to some rich dudes in St. Catherines and Niagara Falls about the possibility of purchasing the thirtieth AHL franchise and placing it there.

The Saints did well as a Leaf affiliate in the late 80s early 90s before the chance to move closer to home in Newmarket was worked out (but that's another story). St. Kitts has been clamouring for professional hockey since.

Also, in the 1950s and early 60s...Saint Kitts was a Black Hawk country!

Didn't the Fruit Belt convert to Sabres mania when Adam Creighton was drafted in the early 80s?

In addition to what Andrew said, they also share the Amerks with Florida, and are stating that they want a team as reserve for their sole use. Reportedly, they made an offer to buy the Amerks out but were refuted. There's also the argument that They're more interested in a team where they have involvement with more than 10 players at a time, which eventually leads to the financial discussion.

Rochester is quickly headed fo r the same econimic changes that we're experiencing in Buffalo, and both sides feel the financial loss si due, at least in part, to this partnership, Rochester to a much larger degree. There have been a few speculations that the new pairing will be in Portland, Maine, I also heard a vrief speculation that a new franchise may be set up in the NOTL/St. Catherine's/Burlington area, either of which will bring their own set of issues.

NOTL=Niagara On The Lake

The city of Rochester and and Amerks are having financial problems. The Sabres probably don't want to deal with it. I beleive the team owes the city some back money. It is really too bad because they have had a long, prosperous relationship.

LITY - That would be sweet to have an AHL team in the Niagara Region. However, do you think that they would survive being that they are so close to Buffalo and we all know that the Metro Buffalo population is only 1.1 Millon or so? I have relatives in the Welland area that like most in the area are huge Leaf fans, so maybe having the AHL Sabres in the area could shift some to being Sabre fans, but who am I kidding, Southern Ontario is Leafs Country.

Move the franchise to Cincinnati. We could use another hockey war to drive away the remaining 1600 hockey fans (see Ducks v Cyclones 1997-2004) in the area!
