Stand

Tom-tom beats a rising thunder,
Comes the prairie Chieftains’ order,
Dark clouds signing, forlorn echoes,
Angry broken promise beckons,

Cornfield chorus wailing war-cry,
A ponies nervous, rain stung eye,
Points of flint, all in the quiver,
Ride the wind, ride to the river,

Yellow-hair and blue coats blunder,
Many Crazy Horses plunder,
Clashing titans, Black Hills buried,
Bloodstained grasslands, ancients fury

I LIKE this one, and, of course I'll tell you why...Custer never, NEVER should have rode out that day, and he knew it. He'd been told by everybody, including the Everyready Bunny!, NOT to go...but, whatcha gonna do with a Presidential hopeful?
Either Red Horse, or Crazy Horse, had been jailed in the fort's cell, was tortured and beaten senseless. His braves broke him out that night, and this Chief's parting words were a curse he laid on Custer: You will be killed if you come to our land."
GREAT, historical poem, and yes, indeed, the iambs merge this poem together, with clarity and much signifigance!!!

Although I see no "orderly iambs", it was an interesting, fairly well written poem.

In line 6, it should be "pony's" instead of "ponies" and "rain-stung" should be hyphenated; "ancients" in the last line should be either "ancient" or "ancient's".

Was I headed to (or in) the right spot?

This is the only clue I set out upon, and I think I was a little closer to the goal...before noticing the others, that is.

Finally, a poem for grown-ups. Yes, I can hear the drumbeat and see the action. You could make a video of this poem.

That is a very interesting poem... It feels like it is going to a drum beat.
