Will option A draw too much power from the battery? I want to know that option A is a smart idea and won't kill the battery

You may want to add another battery and/ or you may need to add a converter to connect to the battery cable, to prevent it from running out of power especially at stopping points such as red lights, stop signs or traffic. There are also cigarette lighter to dc converters at radio shack so you can connect the lights directly to the cigarette lighter.

Power Inverter. If you use LED christmas lights you could install more that the "regular" kind.
