With a TWINKLE in my eye and my TOE TAPPING to the rhythm of my guitar, I am finally HOMEWARD bound.

It was a MYSTERY to me at the time as I had no expectations of leaving so soon. So I was STUNNED when the Captain came to me and told me my tour of duty was over. I thought I had another six months left. I was ALWAYS A DREAMER so I had to pinch myself to be sure this wasn't just another vivid dream. I didn't want to wake up and find out it was all in my imagination like the time I dreamt I had won the lottery.

I asked the Captain why I was getting to go home so early. "NEVER YOU MIND," he said. Just get your stuff packed, you're leaving today. Well, I'm a good soldier and that was 'GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME." I hated to leave my buddies behind but they were very happy for me. They all gave me notes to pass to their loved ones, Christmas greetings mostly but a few love letters too. It was quite a large pile, but I gladly accepted them all and assured them everyone's letters would be delivered.

I found out later that I had been the lucky winner of a drawing enabling a few of us to go home early. I think it was just a publicity thing to get the press off the administration's back for a while, but I didn't care. I will be home for Christmas with my family and friends and don't have go to go back, although I still miss my buddies.

He comes to me with a twinkle in his eye; with a toe tapping charm. You & I were homeward bound when he caught my eye. Now he approaches me, telling me things I want to hear. Oh, the delicious mystery. I wonder - could I? I am stunned as he caresses my senses. I hear you in my mind telling me I was always a dreamer. I see you, your trusting face. Never you mind, I tell you silently and smile inwards. I turn to him now and say out loud, you're not good enough for me.

Twinkle twinkle little toe tapping star,
homeward bound in your mystery star car
up above a stunned little town
someone says you were always a dreamer,
never you mind my attempt at a poem,
this good enough for me!
