I don't understand how someone can make fun of someone who is just trying to be friendly?
I've seen this happen in particular with bullies at a school. My niece is a sweet young lady but there are some girls who just don't like her and are mean to her. She doesn't understand why this happens and it's breaking my heart to watch her in pain.
I just don't understand how people can be so cruel to someone else who never hurt them and was only trying to be their friend.

Yeah, it's kinda sad...Unfortunately human nature can be very cruel...kind people by nature are rare in my personal experience...I don't mean to say most of people are bad, they're rather indifferent to other people problems, which I can understand ( everyone has his own problems to solve )...
So your question is about bad people being mean towards nice ones...One can hardly understand human nature: people returning good with bad...but wasn't that exactly what happen to Indians: They accepted Spanish conquistadors like gods, they were nice to them, but in the end they were killed by them !?

as a retired gentlemen of leisure , it is interesting to note that among the young nothing much has changed , at the age of 67 I have not married but I do have a girl friend Because my education was nonexistent except for what I have Pict up as the years rolled by and without modern technology I would not be able to do that which I am doing now , for example using e-speaking and check spelling makes things a lot easier to do and get a reasonable result . So I consider myself fortunate to have any company at all the size or looks large or small tall or short does not matter only how well we get along together , I was never any good at relationships knew nothing about responsibility and like most men made every mistake a man can make so take heart young lady there is someone out there just for you take your time and enjoyed being young and if you're a believer ask God in the name of Jesus Christ to lead you to the right man or woman if that's what turns you on and wait on his answer take my word for it it's worth it . That's life. Especially in school situations; nice girls get badly treated by nasty girls and the same with boys. Kids are cruel, period, and the older they get, the more cruel they become. I used to be like your niece; sweet, young, etc and had the crap beaten out of me verbally and emotionally...it does leave scars. High school was the worst!

I believe that people are mean because it makes them feel superior or because they think it gives them a sense of power over the other person. They think that by making someone else feel uncomfortable or humiliated, it makes them look better or feel better about themselves.
Tell your niece that it's not her, it's them. Tell her that there are nice people out there that are worth knowing and that she should ignore these girls since they are obviously ugly, ugly people who don't deserve her friendship.

People don't normally care about what your like. Some people just take one look at you and decide they dont like you. It's silly, but its how people are now a days. You just have to keep on with you kind nice hearted attitude and dont let those few couple people spoile the good works you have to offer.

Bullies have the same problem the people they pick on do. Self-esteem. They pick on others to make themselves feel better. People don't stand up for themselves because they don't have the courage to. She needs to learn how to stick up for herself without killing the nice girl inside of her.

it's the nature of that girls. they think that they are the only one best and beautiful. i have the same problem. i have been in u.s. two years and i don't have any friends. u know what tell your niece to ignore them. no metter what u do they are not going to change.

because they are sarcastic and rude and if there parents don't raise them to be good people that's how they'll be there whole lives it sux it's the real world and you know what if you see any here best you can do is report them.
