I am having problems with my car heating and defrosting the windows. The engine temp gage is at the 1/4 mark and is normal like it always has been. I replaced the thermostat but this had no affect on the problem. Still very little heat coming from the blower. Any ideas what my problems are? It seems I get a little coolent flow but not the full amount. Is there some valve in the system that is not working? The system uses dex-cool so I do not think the heater core is plugged. Any help or ideas would be great thanks.

The low heat was present before and after the thermostat was replaced. Can a heater core plug with a dex-cool system? Plus the system has been sealed for at least 3 years.

The problem ended up being a plugged heater core. I flushed it with a garden hose. There were chunks of old gasket and aluminum flakes. Heats good now. I guess this is common for these cars at about 100k miles.

Potentially a clogged heater core. Check the hoses that go into the firewall. if one is much hotter than the other, than there is probably some sort of blockage in the core.
Also, the temperature gauge sitting at 1/4 seems a little low. Most cars it rests at around 1/2. But i am less familiar with saturns specifically.

Yes there is a heater control valve. It is usually a silver color and can be seen just outside of the firewall. You will see the heater hoses running to it. Probably the problem.

might be vapor locked this can happen when you change a thermostat air can get trapped in the heater core and not let coolant threw like it should
