The ages of the characters are never specifically given in the novel. However, we can make some inferences based on the historical events mentioned in the book.
Gatsby went overseas to WW I in 1917, so he was probably born around the turn of the century.
Since the action in the novel takes place in the "Roaring Twenties", shortly before the "Wall Street crash" of 1929, Gatsby would have to be in his late 20s or very early 30s.
Presumably the other characters are roughly about the same age.
Aha - I found a web site that pretty much agrees with me:

I don't know if this will help you, but I always loved this quote about Gatsby's smile: "One of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced-or seemed to face-the whole external world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you as you would like to believe in yourself and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey." (52-53) Maybe you could use this to show that Nick understands Gatsby or has the most positive and forgiving opinion towards him...?

Nick is 29 for the first part of the book and later turns 30. It says Myrtle's in her mid-thirties. That's all I can remember :)
