This guy has wasted 5 years of his life in hiding in order for his wife to claim life insurance on him, as soon as he comes out of hiding, he is arrested for fraud. He is now facing up to 15 years for fraud charges as his wife snitched on him saying they went on holiday together last year.

Am I the only person that finds that really funny that he has screwed his life and his wifes for nothing.
What a fool.

Dumb as a box of rocks that one. When I read the story all I could think was that I think they wanted to get caught. Why go somewhere that has an extradition treaty with your country? That's the dumbest part of all.
Man.
I guess they never saw any movies about this kind of thing so they could learn what NOT to do.

I feel sorry for the whole family. They have ruined their lives. He was in big debt and saw no other way out. I think they have been punished enough. They should just pay the insurance money back and then be allowed to get on with their lives.

I agree what a fool ,the canoeist .
.But I ask you, Are not the McCanns, taking a similar stance ?Wouldn't it be a laugh. If suddenly ,their Kiddy appears 5 years later, after they, the McCanns, have reaped the benefit of their suspicious Limited Company fund , following Fraudulent behaviour....?

its funny in a '....how can anybody be so dumb' way, but there is a lot more to this story.....you DONT fake your own death, lay low for 5 years and then give your self up to the police.....it doesnt make any sense, someone said earlier on here that they thought he was being blackmailed over this picture....apparently people around where they lived knew he wasnt dead, he'd been 'spotted' twice....X

His wife hasn't done him any favours has she. She cant stop confessing. Also, why on earth Panama ?? and why come home and plead amnesia now (pretty implausable!!).
The whole thing is a bit weird and I bet there is more going on than we know. (They didnt have a little blond girl with them did they ??)

I was going to be Mrs Darwins toy boy, but now she has changed her mind, something about some unforseen circumstances. Well I will get back to my job selling insurance, and spend my weekends paddling my canoe

The more you read about it in the news it sounds like a badly written comedy film! Seems like such a waste of life... and the wife kept the fact that he was alive hidden from their sons, who thought he was dead, and now she is worried that they will hate her. (???)

Yep, I found that mighty funny too.

Just imagine how the sons must feel? That must be a right kick in the nuts for them. They have my sympathies.

I know... seriously, if they were going to move and start a new life in another country, why did he ever come back? And as soon as it comes to light, all the truth comes out.

Canoe believe it?!

I have a bad memory too. I would never remember to find my way to the police station if I had done that err, death thing in a canoe.
