I have been told on several occastions, that I don't give a person a chance to finish his or her story. Its like I don't even realize I'm doing this, and I do try very hard to listen before speaking.

Do you get that urge inside to talk, like I just can't hold it in anymore? Like I just have to tell them NOW? I learned to wait until they are finished talking because only then do I really know what they mean.

Too many times I have replied before they were finished. Sometimes I gave the wrong reply because they meant something else.

When someone is talking and you feel that stressful urge inside, maybe in your stomach area or chest, constantly remind yourself as you listen to that person: "I'm going to wait until they stop talking and then I might answer. I need to understand everything they say". If there is a third person present, or more than just the 2 of you, let someone else answer first because they might say what you were going to, and then you can discover if it was the right answer without risking your credibility or coming across as a Know-it-All, or as overtalkative.

Relax and enjoy listening.

that happens to me a lot. Do you still get the gist of what the person is talkign about?? Cause sometimes I interrupt people but I still know exactly what theyre talking about, and in a sense am listening. It could be simply a habit, but also short attention span.

i had that. you are either very bright and see where the conversaion is heading and cannot have the patience to listen first or
you are very "silly" and dont see where the conversation is heading and cannot have the patience to listen.

one way or another - the remedy is to listen first.

You think you know the answer too quickly. Listen to the whole story first and then comment.
