I am a single mother of 1 and my daughter's father is NOT paying any child support, he has been ordered to do, but has not done so. He was recently terminated from his employer, and now receives unemployment benefits of which, he is not supporting our daughter. He also "claims" to be self employed of which he receives cash/check payments, so I am not sure where to go with this one. Can someone give their feedback??

unemployment, social security, medicare etc cannot be garnished, however, you can't stay on unemployment forever. It's worth knowing though that YOU are responsible for keeping up with changes in employment. If you are garnished, then you could always switch jobs fairly frequently. each time you do this, they have to track you down, and then fulfill paperwork to have the garnishment put in place. Some states, an actual officer has to come to your employment and hand you the papers in person. i don't know what your state's laws are. on the other hand, why is that ***** finding you after 12 years looking for your money. she should have done that years ago. You can probably fight that in court. you had NO idea the kid existed, and if you had, you probably would have been paying.. get a lawyer ASAP or sooner... look up free legal aid on google

no.. You don't have to pay child support if you are on unemplyment or disability. Because it's considered too low of a income bracket and it's usually below the poverty level and it just supplies your basci needs, but you must let your courts or judge know the situation , so no charges are brought against you.
