Paste of green Neem leaves on her thumb. This will not harm but will stop her to suck the thumb

It's normal and natural for babies to suck their thumbs and as for my own opinion it's even much hygienic than sucking a plastic baby ( tit)SP,let her enjoy her babyhood and you'll find that she won't spend too much time crying.
If some one has teeth that are not nice (eg), (Ugly Betty) it has nothing to do with thumbs!. my mom sucked her thumb for almost 20 yrs ,others stop whilst their still young out of embarrassment.it'll be very difficult and will bring depression to a baby coz she started the same habit even before she was born,so just let her suck it until she/he'll get fed up of it.
unfortunately non of my two daughters took from my mother so i decided not to buy any of the plastic sucking stuff for babies coz i once saw an incident where a mom was pocking her nose all a sudden a baby dummy fell on the floor while her pet Toby was playing and immediately she picked it up and put it back into the baby's mouth, the action was too fast because she didn't want her baby to start crying, who knows how many bacterias babies suck in a day?, how many people really sterilise and frequently change their baby dummies wherever they go?, are plastics safer than an original thumb dummies? not affect the good growth of teeth? surely I'd not advice you to pacify an innocent peace full child!
and love.love your baby if it starts crying just put the thumb into her/his mouth! Good day!.

I agree with Serry's mum - why would you want to? She is doing something that comes naturally to her. Would you try to stop her crawling or talking? Babies naturally comfort themselves by sucking their thumbs or fingers. It's good that she knows how to self soothe. Unlike a pacifier, her thumb cannot fall on the floor or get out of her reach, it cannot break up and cause her to choke, her thumb doesn't transfer plastic chemicals into her body. If her thumb falls out of her mouth in the night, she can put it back in herself and won't wake you up to do it.
There is absolutely no evidence that it causes any dental problems unless it goes on past the age of 5 or 6.
The chances are that she won't take a pacifier now anyway. Why would she want to suck a bit of plastic when she can use her own thumb?

you can get something called 'bitter aloes' which you paint on like nail polish. It taste absolutely vile and will stop her sucking her thumb. Its not toxic btw.

It's not the worst habit in the world to have but can cause problems with her teeth getting pushed out over time and also speech delays.
I think its wise to try and stop it as soon as you can. By at least 2 years of age would be best if you can't do it now, when all their teeth are usually in and developing. Past that age could cause the long term problems.

best of luck

Part of a development of a child is a fixation with putting things in their mouths so they are likely to suck thumbs, toes etc. Only suggestion is to give me something else to suck on like a plastic ring or something as long as there are no small parts of course

why would u want to? I think so many people say its bad, that we eventually forget why it is so bad. The realitly is, it isn't! My daughter does it, and if it gves her comfort then why shouldn't she? She will grow out of it, just leave her be. As for buck teeth - what a load of rubbish. I would say the majority of people sucked their thumb when babies and they haven't all got buck teeth, have they? Nor do they suck their thumbs as adults. Think about it, how many adults do u know who suck their thumb?

There are very good reasons for stopping them ...

1. If you dont they will continue to do it subconsiously as an adult which is very embarrassing
2. The sucking action will pull their teeth forwards over time leading to 'buck teeth'
3. You cannot take a thumb away from them.

Best thing is to get them onto a pacifier so that they forget about the thumb and then slowly wean them off that as well.

i think it's just normal for babies to suck their thumb...just like my baby and she's just 6 months...i think the reason they do that is their tooth is about to grow

if you can get her to take a pacifer then i would try b/c its easier to take way that then a finger.

My oldest wouldn't take anything but her fingers and were still trying to break the habit.

sucking is the way babies self soothe

Is there a medical reason why you want to stop her? Stop worrying and just enjoy your baby
