She gave you that money in good faith and the least you could do is pay her back. But, if you are struggling and only have £20 left, then try talking to her and asking her if she can wait until you have some more money, or pay her back in instalments. You should learn from this and realise that if you do not have the money to go out then do not borrow from someone else.

Hello Deenie,

Your friend offered to lend you the money and you accepted the loan. The reasons do not matter.

I am wondering how long 'a while ago' is.

If I had lent you the money I would certainly expect it to be repaid, but if you were short of cash I would be quite happy for you to repay me in instalments, maybe £5 per week.

I feel sure that your friend would accept this.

Speak to them and apologise for not repaying the loan earlier and tell her you honestly forgot about it. Offer her some money on account and arrange an amount and time when you can pay it back, either all at once or instalments.

That way your friend gets the loan repaid and you should not be without money to tied you over.

Unfortunately when money is lent and not repaid, it tends to sour the relationship between the lender and recipient. Offering to pay it back in instalments should keep your friendship intact.

Yes it's a bit rude of you but it's not like you've killed anyone so don't worry too much!

Apologise to her sincerely and just explain that you completely forgot and that you won't beable to pay her back until the 20th.

When you pay her back, buy her a box of chocolates too to show your appreciation, and hopefully she'll be fine.

No matter what the reason, the friend was kind enough to lend you money and you must pay it back. It was wrong of you to make her wait so long that she had to ask for it back.. You will become very unpopular if you make a habit of this behaviour.....................

you pay her back, no matter why she lent it to you. if it's really all you've got til the 20th, see if you can come to some arrangement with her. don't be surprised if she never lends you again! diane.

You must definetly give it back. If you cannot do it now, tell her and apologies. Just cause she has money doesn't mean you don't have to give it back!
