Is it really acceptable in the 21st Century that people can legally get into a ring in front of thousands of people and participate in a 'sport' where the main aim is to concuss the opponent?

God no i love Boxing!

I hope Hatton KO's Mayweather this weekend. Boxing is one of the only times you see arrogant morons who think they are the best put in their place by the underdog.
If you spent an hour with Mayweather or with Eubank when he was on form you would want to punch their lights out too.
It's a very technical game now and one of the only sports left which requires great heart and stamina to win.

Is it acceptable that in the 21st century interfering busy bodies can ban an ancient sport? One that they are not forced to watch or compete in, and one that has considerably less victims than rock climbing and hospital ward infections.

Boxing takes many would be thugs off the street and teaches them discipline, and it acts as a channel for male aggression and places it within a controlled environment.

So, let the soppy Liberals and feminists and those that don't understand the sport, keep their beaks out.

Life should be about priorities, we shoud deal with the most important things first.

In a world where we have terrorism, wars, abused children, millions stalving and dying of disease then why should we spend time looking at something as (relatively) trivial as this?

It's a bit like all the 'do gooders' of this land, surely the homeless and starving children are much more important than banning dogs from walking on the beach or that a lap dancing club wants to open.

It's about priorities, about putting things into prospective and when you start to look at the big picture, Boxng doesn't even come into it.

They do this of their own free will, knowing the possible consequences. If we ban everything that is "bad for us" what's next? How long before you're not allowed to ride a motorbike, drive a car, ride a bicycle or a horse because it's dangerous?

PS I don't like boxing but don't think that I have the right to dictate what the participants should or should not be allowed to do.

Ban it, and it goes underground. As it's legal, when boxers are seriously hurt, they can be rushed to hospital or receive proper medical attention ringside without someone debating what to do because it's an illegal fight or have some dodgy doctor operating on them.

I think it's barbaric, but it's popular, and I don't think that kind of competition is going to go away just by making it illegal.

No not at all. Boxing is one of the oldest and purest of sports, its literally man vs man.
Yes it can be brutal, but these men are probably the most highly conditioned sportsmen in the world. The physical and mental training that goes into a world title fight (think Hatton on Saturday) is mind blowing.
Proper sport for proper men!

I don't like it much either but, it is a sport and these people are all willing to take part aren't they?
We'll even get banned from breathing soon the way the law is going.
Fighting to boxers is like a cig to smokers. Just let them enjoy it if it's what they want.Even if it is damaging. :0)

Yes I do not enjoy boxing and like that movie Million dollar Baby ..................no one ever hears or cares of the badly injured ones. It is a stupid violent selfharming "sport" with no benefits but perhaps financial for the boxer. Or he gets 10% and his manager gets the rest. I think it is a way rich people take advantage of poor people because if you check history on boxers most of them comes form a very poor background. No rockefellers or Rothchild boxers ............

If they have fun doing it, let them. As long as no one forces me to get into the ring - they could do whatever they want.

we'd best ban horse racing and rugby and football and cricket and martial arts and hockey and bungee jumping and skateboarding and crossing the road and every other activity involving risk of injury then

like him above says, ban it and it'll go underground, with no doctors and no holds barred
