The Wall by John Hersey. I first read it for an independent reading assignment junior year of high school. It's about the wall that was built around the Warsaw ghetto and how the Jews managed to keep the Nazis at bay for so long with minimal weapons and food. I guess I projected myself into the book because I was the same age as some of the resistance fighters. They even killed some of the soldiers and paid the ultimate price for doing so. I wanted to be as brave as they were, even though there was no doubt of the final outcome.
