[Edit: I'm very discerning with who gets my cell number after a couple of stalker experiences, so typically it's only people I know and like who are calling. If I don't recognize the number, I don't answer.]

It varies hugely, but it's rarely any of those!

Depending on my mood, who is calling (isn't caller id fantastic??), where I am, etc. I may answer like this:

- "Whatchew want!!!" (loudly, in a very specific Mr. T-ish kind of voice)

- "Hello, is ______ there?" [the blank is their name, so I'm answering the phone as if I'M the one that called THEM] -- I only do this every so often, because I don't want it to get old, but it catches people off-guard and *always* leads to laughter on both sides. : )

- "WHAT!!!" -- same applies for this one. Nobody expects to get yelled at as a greeting, so they are startled, then laugh.

- "Stop calling me, you freak!"

- [heavy breathing, a la an obscene phone call, then giggles once they've started laughing]

- "Hello, and welcome to [whatever business name comes to mind], how can I help you today?"

- "May I take your order?" or "Would you like fries with that?"

- "Hey, this is Mandie's voicemail. Leave me a message and I'll call you back." They never actually think they've gotten my v-mail because the real greeting on my vm is nothing like that. But sometimes, to play along, they'll 'leave a message', and it's always hilarious! (I love having fun/funny, playful friends!)

And the list goes on. I like to have fun with it. :D

If I'm crying or upset for some reason, I answer with a sniffle (or possibly a sob, but that's only happened once or twice). Since that's usually why they're calling -- we've been texting or w/e -- and they know I'm upset, it's not as weird as it may sound. If I'm angry, which thankfully is rare, I just plain don't answer. I figure I can be merciful and spare anyone having to deal with that. : P

Helloooo or hiya if it's a friend showing up on caller ID. Hello if it's a more formal call (manager etc). I don't answer withheld numbers.
