i have just been diagnosed with Polycystic ovaries after having an ultrasound, I have not been given any explanation of what it is, why I have it or how to treat it, does anyone else have this condition? If so can you tell me a bit about it eg how you are treating it?

Hi, I was diagnosed with it over 2 years ago but told I have probably had it since I was a young teenager. The reaon you didn't get much of an explaination is b/c they don't know what causes it. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a health problem that can affect a woman's menstrual cycle, ability to have children, hormones, heart, blood vessels, and appearance. With PCOS, women typically have:
high levels of androgens. These are sometimes called male hormones, although females also make them, missed or irregular periods. As for me I am on an insulin resistant medication called Metformin 1500mg a day. There are several things they can put you on Birth Control, if you are planning on getting pregnant they will put you on hormones. I mean the list goes on and on. Check out these websites I posted in the Source List below they are helpful and if you want to know anything else don't hesitate to email or IM me.

Polycystic Ovaries and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (this one is a hormone imbalance) are two different things.

If the doctor is saying that you have the second one the only way to confirm it is thru a series of blood tests and a couple of other tests to rule out other hormone problems. After those things are ruled out they can factor in PCOS (PCOS is a diagnosis that comes from exclusion of other medical problems) Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is often caused by high testosterone levels.

Weight gain can be a symptom of it as well as acne, hair loss, excessive hair growth. Irregular periods is also an issue for many women with PCOS. When cysts occur as part of PCOS they are small and when they show up on the ovaries they look like a string of pearls and when trying to remove them it can damage the ovaries. The reason is because these cysts are immature follicles that when things are working right come up each month as part of our menstrual cycle.

my sister had polycystic ovaries, and now has 2 little ones. I easily have PCOS am 2 years older and have none. thats the version. she has gentle cysts on her ovaries, yet no longer sufficient to stay away from ovulation. Get a fertility calender and thermometre for boots, plot your basal temp for here couple of months and notice in case you could pinpoint ovulation. you havent been pushed away, he cant furnish you scientific guard a ailment you dont have, and in getting your companion examined he can settle on the way forward. the only criticism i could have of ur checklist isn't telling you the thank you to ascertain for ovulation, yet on the different hand, in case you're ovulating and ur companion is firing blanks (sorry-couldnt positioned it greater helpful) you will get greater pissed off. get onto fertility websites, paintings out the ovulation recurring and the thank you to degree it and commence your self. yet to be straightforward, your companion desires regarded at too.

Well my sister has polysistic ovaries and it is when you have too much testosterone so it can affect the ability for you to have children. My sister couldn't have children so she tried IVf but she found it too hard, so she stopped her treatment.
