your mother could be right.

If the cord is around the babies body and neck it can restrict their blood and oxygen flow and then cause problems as it is trying to be delivered. Because it is so wrapped, it could have a 'bungy cord' effect which means the baby would be bobbing up and down because the shortened cord doesn't allow for it to be pushed out properly. Each push would tighten the cord and therefore cause the restricted flow etc....

However, a lot of babies are born without knowing the cord is wrapped around them and are fine. My son had it wrapped and although he was a bit blue he breathed on his own and had apgar scores of 9/10. I know of plenty of people who's babies had a wrapped cord and the baby was fine as they unwrap it asap and monitor you through labour and if the heartbeat starts to drop they can have the baby out in less than 5 mins if they have to.

Your doctor will discuss your options with you but be mindful that this is a very common issue amongst pregnant women and a c-section isn't the end of the world.

Don't stress about it and be thankful that the ultrasound picked it up early so intervention can be used if necessary.

Best of luck
