If Iraqi law required a death sentence to be carried out within 30 days, and the sentence was given on November the 5th, why was he hung on December the 30th, which is approximately 55 days after the sentence?

Under Iraqi law, he was allowed to file appeals...so the extra time was to allow that process to happen. The reason they allowed him this was to show him the kind of mercy that he never showed any of his victims...he is getting plenty of payback in Hell as we speak, I am sure...

Saddam was put to death 55 days later because the US government wanted to show the Iraqi people the Saddam's laws no longer applied to them or anyone else, including Saddam himself (whom they never really applied to anyway).

I agree, stick it in the law section and you might actually get a half-serious answer. stupid answers just irritate me - i don't see the point in saying 'i think it's a bit late to worry about that' or 'because they delayed it'.

good question, by the way. i have no idea what the answer is. but yeah, definitely stick it under law.

As I remember, this was a big concern during the process. I remember hearing on radio news that they rushed the hanging to avoid missing their deadline and, in the end, were successful.

It took that long for K Street think tanks to decide if it was a good PR move or not.
