The short answer is yes,but to give you a complete answer there are various reasons why your electrician would put it outside the kitchen. If it would be to close to the sink this would be one reason space is another, I have mine outside otherwise I wouldn't be able to have a fridge freezer.I am a electrician and having worked with councils before i know it could just be something they told him to do.If it really bothers you get on to the council they might change it for you.

You have probably tripped a fuse. You need to find the fusebox usually close to the eletricity meter. That should contain some switches(usually blue) that are the fuses. On the switch are singns, O for when the fuse is off and a 1 for when it is in use. find the switch that is in off position and switch it to 1. That should do the trick. If you have an old fashioned fusebox you have no switches but white screwin caps with a small piece of glass in the top. You look through this glass. If there is a small piece of metal loose in the cap the fuse behind the cap has tripped. You need to unscrew the cap and put in a new fuse. The fuse is the white bottle shaped thingy behind the cap.

I think so. There are safety rules about the siting of light switches and the type of switches in aresas where there is a water supply. That's why bathrooms and kitchens often use pull cords, so that there is no danger of wet hands coming into contact with live wires. I assume the switch is located just outside the kitchen? You could always check with your council. Hope this helps.

Sounds like you might be in Britain or Australia...I am assuming that council house is like a rental unit. If a proper or licensed electrician is doing the work, you would almost have to assume that they are doing it to code...I know that having a switch just outside the entrance to a room is typical.

Yes it is! If you want it in the kitchen then contact the council and tell them. Consult your tenants charter and that will tell you what your rights are. If you don't have a copy then ask the council for one, and why ......... It scares the s**t out of them!

fine, no problem with that. Don't worry, it will be done correctly as the council pay over the top in wages. Think your self lucky your not ending up with the bill. Could be up to £10,000 for home owners.

We had our council house rewired this year and our lightswitch is in the kitchen. I don't see why yours isn't. Have a moan at the electrician and the council.
