I am naturally a very nervous person and am about to take my ex husband to court over summer money issues on SSI for the children and visitation. I am on disability due to my anxity issues. While I feel I have a strong case I think it's going to be hard for me to present it to the judge effectivly. I get so nervous it's sometime hard for me to get the things I really am trying to get across. I can not afford to hire another attorney so I will have to do this myself. Any suggestions?

Could you maybe have half a glass of wine, or something? You could exercise before you go. Don't forget to breath. (while your there, of course). And last, realize that you WILL be nervous and give yourself a break. That way you wont be surprised when you are.

Have everything you need well prepared ahead of time. This will help a lot to keep you organized in your thinking and in your presentation of your side of the story. Be clear in what you have to say. Make sure you present facts and not a lot of personal whining and complaining. The court is only interested in the facts. Make sure to get a good night's sleep and to eat a healthy breakfast before you go to court on the day of your scheduled appearance ... and don't be late, not even by a minute. Judges do not take kindly to tardiness.

Try these:
1. Write down what you want to say and read it once you are there
2. Talk slowly, with pauses and deep breaths
