It is all a contest about who is the best looking........and who looks best in a bikini and an evening gown. They do ask one question........but it is never complicated!!! One of the questions I remember was "Who would you choose as a rol model: Nicole Ritchie, Lindsay Lohan, or Paris Hilton" and the girl says "I don't think any of those girls should be role models" and the audience cheered..........Boy what brains that takes!!! What a hard question!!! Boy she knows that those girls are bad role models what a genious........Seriously why cant fat ugly ppl be in these beautfy pagents. Why don't they admit they are just about looks? Who cares if you are good looking? I used to be in a beauty pagent and think it was so great to be beautiful and win crowns but now I seriously think it is retarded!!! I now focus on school work and I think getting a 4.0 on my report card gives me sooooo much more fulfillment than winning a stupid beauty pagent............

yes, but there is a segment of society that takes them very seriously. I was reading on FB and boy do those people take the pagent seriously. Takes all kinds. Pagents don't do women any favors, except those that win and if the financial rewards are sufficient. They just further perpetuate the idea that the value that women hold for a short span of their life is the most important. Thankfully, as women succeed in more and more areas of power things like pagents will go by the wayside like the dinosaur.

and just so you know, in order to make it to a high level like Miss America, you have to be a VERY well rounded student. Aside from maintaining you grades at at least a 4.0 level, you have to have a platform and do TONS of volunteer work and community service, along with having a great talent and being able to answer questions far more difficult than some stupid role model question.
I don't know what backward town you live in but any pageants I've seen on the high school level ask political questions or questions on self image.
Do you have to be pretty to do well in a BEAUTY pageant, duh.

Beauty pageant. Beauty. that is what it is supposed to be about. It isn't a science exam. It is for beautiful girls who wish to gain experience and confidence. It can lead to jobs in the entertainment industry where we all knows looks are very important. It can be a way to earn a great deal of money for college as well. They do admit they are about looks and the ability to have some poise as well. You can still be beautiful and have a 4.0 average, right?
