The cavemen did not get around to learning how to write. What they did instead was put paintings up on their cave walls, many of these survive today. What they show are the animals they hunted and some of the tribal ceremonies which they performed.
A lot of what may be said about cave paintings, is probably conjecture - a lot of guesswork. The cavemen are no longer around to explain what their paintings meant.
The most famous cave paintings are those of Southern France : -
Cave of Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc
In French and English. Paintings and engravings dating from the Palaeolithic age in Southern France.

In order to get to the point where writing can be invented, we need first to create an aristocracy or upper class of rich folk. It is the rich folk who have time on their hands because they no longer need to labour, who eventually discover the art of writing and reading.
As for the rest of us serfs, it's nose against the grind stone making profits for our masters.

Cavemen and other native groups used a type of "writing" called "pictographs." These told stories and histories through pictures. The pictograph would someday lead to heiroglyphics which would lead to writing.
The cave drawings in the Neanderthal Valley are from 40-50,000 BC(E)

There wasn't any cave writing only paintings and handprints. When people started agriculture they settled down and started building buildings. Between 15,000 to 10,000 years ago. Writing started around 5000 years ago. So there wasn't any writing til many, many years after leaving the caves. Also, the wheel wasn't invented by cave people it came about around the same time as writing. The book as we know it has only been around about 2000 years.

While cave paintings have been around since probably the first humans the earliest written language was the Sumerian language in the southern Mesopotamian region of what is now the nation of Iraq. The first Cuneiform (scripted) writings appeared in the year 3,000 BC.

as soon as they were old enough to walk upright & grunt, they realized their cave walls were bland, so they decided to paint pictures to spruce up the joint. That also kept them out of sight & danger from the dinosaurs. lol
