2 weeks ago my (then 9 month pregnant) cousin and I were in the car and we passed by a new store being put up called BevMo! (Beverages and more, I think) she said the name of the store and said it would be a cute baby name. I laughed and thought she was joking around. She said if she had a boy she would name it that, and I thought she was joking. The next time I saw her was a few days ago after she had her baby, and she said she named him BevMo. I seriously didn't believe her but she got up and showed me the birth certificate and I was basically shocked.
I told her it was weird to name her baby after a beverage dispenser store, and she got mad at me and I haven't talked to her since.
Do you think I was out of line for saying that? I'm not going to lie, its just weird to me.

it would've been different if she had a girl and named her Beverly Moira (BevMo for short), but actually naming a child BevMo,especially a boy, i don't know. I knew a girl in High School named Pepsi and the kids were vicious to her. How is it going to be for BevMo in school? And worse, what about when he has to get a driver's licencse or apply for jobs, and everything? Hopefully, he has a more normal middle name that he can use until he can have his name changed. Too bad BevMo wasn't the middle name, though. Then it wouldn't have been as bad since it's rarely used, but i still see it as more of a nickname. But it is her child, so i guess it was her right to name her child whatever she chose. I just hope she and poor BevMo won't pay for it too much in the future.

Well, yeah. I don't think you were completely in the wrong. Mentioning that might give her second thoughts to change the name. Naming your child after BevMo because it sounds "cute" isn't really a great reason to pick that name, there's no meaning to it. Hopefully, no one will associate the baby with an alcoholic beverage dispenser. Then again unusual names are widely accepted in these times.

To me at least, I don't think naming your baby after a place that focuses on selling discount alcohol doesn't speak very well for you.

If this is a true story then I feel so sorry for that baby, some people do not think about what life will be like at school when they name their children odd things.

Its a awful name!!!! Poor kid!

You were just stating the obvious!!

Hopefully your comment will have given her second thoughts and change his name!!

But be the bigger person and try and get back on speaking terms, she'll need her friends and family round her at this emotional time.

basically you are correct -that boy will be hassled all his school years .
People who advise about kids names ,say easy names like John , James , Peter etc though simple are very powerful
well respected and dont cause teasing at school.
Even imagine a name like "JUNIOR"~~how could you call a 70 year old man "UNCLE JUNIOR??"Its liable to raise many eyebrows???

I agree totally with what Miss Understood said(thumbs up from me) except for one little thing.

"But it is her child, so i guess it was her right to name her child whatever she chose." I dont think its a parents right to do so. It is the childs name not the parents. It's no more there right then it is for the parents to beat them and not feed them because its there right to choose what to do with them because, they are their kids.

no YOU'RE not weird...your cousin has a few screws loose..and whoever let her name the baby that ( hospital personel), should have their heads examined too. Thats just crazy. Poor baby/child/adult...( I hope when he grows up he changes his name.)

sorry but it sounds like your cousin is to immature to be a parent, but whats done is done. the bright side is that when this child grows up he will be able to legally change his name, and I'm sure he will.

You were not out of line -- it's only your opinion :o)
It would be different if she named him....let's say....Brandon and you said "That's a weird name." :)
