How should you prevent them from blasting off? No new inventions so far to replace this age old device.

Ive had a presto brand for years now, and my grand parents used them as well..You also have to remember..when the pitcock starts rocking to turn the heat down to where it just gently rocks back and forth..this is 15 pounds of pressure at that point..usually the max recomended for any canning or pressure cooking..also you must not fill it above the line recomended for it..food items will rise to the top, thus stiopping up the safety valves and not allowing [pressure to release, as it needs to...this will explode them..

Prestige, Hawkins and Butterfly are reputed brands. But any one of them can blast off if the steam generated in it can not escape as designed. In your case even the safety valve appears to have failed so the blast off. Keep checking the steam went and safety valve.

U r right no new inventions. You have a choice to switch over the eletric rice cookers National, Kenstar I think are the best brands. But electricity now a days does not come cheap

We use an old Prestige pressure cooker mainly for cooking potatoes. It has never let us down.. Was the lid securely in place?

They're all the same. They take great care in using them, Some people won't. Follow the directions carefully and watch yourself.
