You should read the Theory on Taxation in Economics.Whatever money you earn during a year has to be taxed save a certain non taxable part of it.Higher the Income bigger the figure of Income Tax.It's based on the principle that whose have more are capable of paying more .This money , which is collected in the form of Income Tax or any other Tax on Wealth, House Property,Capital Gains and Income from other sources ......ultimately , becomes a Fund for the Govt. to meet all the expenses to run a Country ....its Administration, Education , Communication Systems , Health care,Old-age care,Policing of the country,Legal System of the Country, the Security of the Nation,Retirement benefits to the people who served the Country till the last day of service, and a host of developmental work.Where will the money come from if there's no taxation in a country? And, Income of anyone generates through good infrastructure the Nation provides.Don't you think that those who earn more has more capacity to pay.Hence, the rate of Taxation varies from Income slab to Income slab.Otherwise, the poor ones will always remain poor and the rich will go on becoming richer by squeezing out everything from the poorer section of the society.

To those who keep asking what we will do without income tax... you do realize there are dozens if not hundreds of other forms of taxation, correct? The government has MORE than enough revenue from these other forms of taxation to sustain itself at a small level. In it's currently operating state, no it could not survive. That's a good thing. It would have to cut back on spending, towards things that need not be bought or managed in the first place.

We don't need no government, we don't need a large government, just a small one.

No it's not

The 16th Amendment to the Constitution specifically authorizes the collection of income taxes.

These 'tax protester' sites do nothing but get people who believe them thrown in jail for tax fraud.

EDIT.... It's not "complicated' at all.

Ignore ALL websites that tell you ANYTHING like "Income tax is voluntary", or "if you don't have a DL etc you don't have to pay taxes.." They are ALL bogus.

The tax code is complicated, but the basic premise is simple. You are liable for taxes on your income. There is NOTHING you can legally do to get out of that obligation. There are deductions and credits, but EVERYONE is liable to do the math and pay whatever is due.

Prison terms for tax evasion are NOT rare, they're common.

This is a sticky subject. I have read a lot about this. Unless you become an expert at what you have to do here, chance are you'll make legal errors and be seriously fined or worse.

Hint. You cannot have a DL, credit card, bank account, or anything government regulated. It's very complicated, and you'll have to defend yourself by gov attorneys who can outspend you.

Just get a good CPA and use his/her tax advice and be happy with this.

PS I don't know about the movie or said website, and don't give credence to these anti-establishment people.

The Supreme Court ruled that income taxes are legal. So if you argue, you are arguing against the highest court of the land.
