To solve an equation with one variable, you need to isolate the variable, meaning bring it to one side or another. Usually it's easier to make it positive just to simplify math. To do this, take your equation: -3k + 10 = k + 2, and add 3k to both sides. You're allowed to do this because you're allowed to do anything to one side as long as you do the same to the other side. Your equation becomes the following:
-3k + 3k + 10 = k + 3k + 2
Which simplifies to: 10 = 4k + 2
In the same manner, subtract 2 from both sides:
10 -2 = 4k + 2 - 2
8 = 4k
Divide both sides by 4:
8/4 = 4k/4
2 = k

And k = 2 is your answer.

- 3k + 10 = k + 2

Take the k terms to one side and the numbers to the other side.

10 - 2 = k + 3k (remember to change the sign when changing the side of a term)

8 = 4k

k = 2

Simple enough I hope.

Simplify
-3k + 10 = k + 2

Reorder the terms:
10 + -3k = k + 2

Reorder the terms:
10 + -3k = 2 + k

Solving
10 + -3k = 2 + k

Solve for variable 'k'.

Move all terms containing k to the left, all other terms to the right.

Add '-1k' to each side of the equation.
10 + -3k + -1k = 2 + k + -1k

Combine like terms: -3k + -1k = -4k
10 + -4k = 2 + k + -1k

Combine like terms: k + -1k = 0
10 + -4k = 2 + 0
10 + -4k = 2

Add '-10' to each side of the equation.
10 + -10 + -4k = 2 + -10

Combine like terms: 10 + -10 = 0
0 + -4k = 2 + -10
-4k = 2 + -10

Combine like terms: 2 + -10 = -8
-4k = -8

Divide each side by '-4'.
k = 2

Simplifying
k = 2

-3k+10=k+2
-3k=k+2-10
-3k-k=-8

i like to get rid of the negative variables, so i multiple the entire equation by negative one to get the following line:
3k+k=8

4k=8
k=2

check your work:
-3(2)+10=2+2
-6+10=4
4=4
