Sammi - I used to do all of the above. Also canned and pickled and stored potatoes in the root cellar. But my brood has now all grown up and flown the coop - so now I just go to the farmers' market and hunt for bargains! I live in an agriculture oriented community so there is always good fresh garden stuff available. Good question. CJ

This year we had a late freeze and my fruit trees never recovered enought to produce any fruit, but I have a peach tree, 2 cherry trees, 2 fig trees or bushes and an herb garden. I used to grow veggies too, but it became alot of work and so now I go to a farmers market close by. It was mostly for fun for my grand daughters and they are teenagers now and not so interested. I have rosemary, thyme, parsley, pineapple sage, greek oregano, chocolate mint, my favorite because of the fragrance it exudes, and every year I try something new just for fun. I did can tomatoes and peach jam last year and some fig preserves. I also have 2 grape vines, and the concord grapes got froze out this year also. Next spring I will plant some greens early, and some lettuce. My garden keeps me close to the earth and enjoying the simple things of life.

I have a small herb garden, but it provides everything I need. Sages and thymes, parsley, salad burnett, dill, fennel, black peppermint, stevia, saffron, garlic, winter onions. No veggies except tomatoes and cucumbers, and I do make my own bread and butter pickles. I used to have a big vegetable garden but the groundhogs and deer took care of that, so now I buy everything at the farmers' market, and save myself the work. I do have a little wheelbarrow that I fill with a mesculen mix in the spring, but that is on my deck where I can keep an eye on it.

We grow just a few things. I admire all of you who grow and can or freeze your own veggies and fruit!
My garden is spare right now. I have chocolate mint, peppermint, sage, chives, and habanero peppers. The habanero's are producing lots of fuit!
We had a mature sweet pink grapefruit tree the first 5 year we lived in our current home. Sadly, two years of hard freezes (rare in this area), killed the tree. It survived the first year, but the freeze during the second year split the trunk in half all the way to the ground and we lost it. We then grew native muscadine and scopanong grapes, we lost all 4 of those and the arbor during hurricane Charley, they were crushed by and oak tree. We never harvested many grapes, the plants produced but the birds, squirrels and racoons always cleaned us out.

I did. But, we have had a multi-year drought here in Southern Nevada. So, the garden area lies fallow. When it was an active project I grew lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers, egg plant, watermelon and even corn. The trick here in the desert is to use drip irrigation.

I used to have a huge garden. I used to freeze and can veggies and make my own tomato juice and tomato relish. I miss it too.
