When the Beatles broke up, I was 15 and didn't think much of rock n roll. Then I became a rock fan and still think the Beatles are way cool, along with a lot of performers from the 50's, 60's and 70's-then my tastes in music evolved towards the classics, from Beethoven to Sousa. Now, my latest and greatest jag is Christian Hymns- powerful and positive. Keep an open mind and heart and keep singing!

I think that during their time, they were the best there was. I've never been a big fan of Elvis or the Monkees, so that really leaves the Beatles (for my taste in music, anyway).
But the way your question is worded, I have to agree. Since that time, there's been SO many better songs than what they put out, that it's just no contest.
So, ARE they overrated? Yes, they are. Were they at the time, I don't think so.

No. Not for the day and age that they jumped on the scene. Things were more simple then. They were innovators, they paved the way for pop and rock to be what it is now. I'm not actually a fan but I do have respect for them.

They haven't charted a hit in a few years, so I don't really know what their rating is. They still have their fans, but like most recording artists, there is undeserved hype. What singer or band is really as good as the record company tries to make you believe?

Well it's like this, the Beatles wanted to hold your hand, Eminem wants to cut it off and stuff it down your throat.

yeah, i mean, they're good but they're not THAT good.
people usually just use them to drop a name that makes them sound like a die hard music fan.
