The vein that runs the back of the shrimp is the digestive tract and I pull it out before cooking the shrimp. Eaten in large quantities it can be harmful so take care with it.

I'm glad you asked this question! I've always wondered that myself... I'm pretty naive when it comes to eating out. Once I ate a new type of shrimp at either a Captain D's or Long John Silvers. It seemed rather crunchy, but I was able to get it down. On the way OUT the door, I noticed their sign that said it was PEEL and eat shrimp! I wish I'd known I was supposed to peel it BEFORE eating it!

The digestive tract is always removed in any of the cooked shrimp we have bought. We seldom buy raw shrimp because cooking them stinks up the whole house.

Won't eat shrimp that has the vein still in it. You can remove it easily before cooking by twisting and pulling out the middle pointy fin on the tail if you are cooking them with shell on, and of course, de-vein them if cooking without shell.

ARGH! You have got to be kidding... They don't "depoop" shrimp before it gets cooked or something?

On the other hand, maybe that's why I like shrimp so much.

Hmm, two shrimp, one cup.

It all depends on how you feel about shrimp poop. I ate it for the longest time until I found out what it was. I'm still alive.

I take them out and save them to make shrimp poop clusters for serving at Republican fundraising events.

it will not kill you but it will sometimes make the shrimp taste worse. you should take it out, it's really not hard to do. simply pull it out when you peel them.
