I'm about to start on anti-depressant medication, but have heard it causes sexual side affects? Is this common and exactly what problems does it cause? I don't want to ge ED (erectile dysfunction) or anything like that from the medicine. Also, if you do get sexual side affects do they go away after you stop the medication. Thanks.

Some anti depressants could give you side effects. If you have some negative sexual side effects then talk to your doctor, he can change your prescription.

Wellbutrin doesn't have any sexual side effects.

Also some SSRI type antidepressants like Zoloft can reduce a mans sperm to zero while he's on the drug but sperm returns once he stops using the drug....

Hi Maxwell. In general, anti-depressants do interfere with sexual desire. The older medications (tricyclic) especially do. Wellbutrin on the other hand can for some people enhance labedo. Wellbutrin is a Heterocyclic. The newer antidepressants are in the class SSRI. Although the side effect profile of these medications in this class generally are milder, they have a potential for decreasing sexual desire and response. Another thing to remember that generally all side effects are dose related. The more you take daily of a medication, the more likely you are to experience one or more side effects for that medication.

Yes. if you start one of these medications and find that your sexual response is decreased, therefore, bothersome to you then your doctor can work with you to taper this medication down to stop, and perhaps switch for another medication.

Have a safe journey!

That depends upon the anti-depressant you are taking, and a host of factors related to your health.
Though it is true that anti-depressants commonly have side effects that affect libido, they are not all alike, and not every person that uses them responds the same way another person does.
I would advise you to ask your doctor, or his/her nurse about this; here you will only get so much speculation.

Well, I take Effexor XR... which is known for causing some really bad sexual side effects (like, makes you impotent, etc) Anyway... after starting off on 75 mg and upping it to 150, I'm fine.. .Just takes a few weeks of masterbating every few days to work it out, and eventually you'll be fine... Now I can *** everytime and doesn't take forever... So you'll be fine, just work with it... Keep masterbating every few days and eventually your body will adjust to it...

Hi there, one of the major side of anti-depressant meds are sexual dysfunctions. For men, I guess they don't feel or enjoy the pleasure of sex anymore. I know it sucks. Good luck

Check with your doctor or the pharmacist about the possible side effects of the antidepressant prescribed for you. And if yes, if the antidepressant is stopped, the side effects do go away.

They sometimes do depending on what you have been prescribed. The best one to ask is the Dr. prescribing it. But i dated a guy years ago that was on one and I can't think of the name of it but he had no trouble with erection or staying power, he could go for hrs. It just took a long time for him to have an orgasm.

Most anti depressants cause a certain degree of impotence unfortunately, but when you come off them everything turns back to normal.

It all depends on what pill you're taking. Lexapro does not cause any sexual side effects.
