I have a tight foreskin (phimosis) and I have been told that an option is to undergo circumcision. I am 14 and I was wondering whether anyone has had a similar experience that they could relate to me. I am interested in your opinions on the differences and benefits as well as any issues or problems that you now have because of it!
Thank you very much!

Adult males lose 15 square inches (40 square centimetres) of skin in circumcision, over half the skin of your penis. You lose the gliding action as it slides on itself during masturbation and sex. You will suffer bruising, perhaps some bleeding, and the swelling from the disruption to the lymph system goes on for up to six months. Removing the foreskin turns the surface of the glans from an inner mucosal membrane to outside skin. Newly circumcised adults usually go through some weeks of intense discomfort as the glans is constantly exposed to rubbing on clothing, until it develops a thicker keratin layer and becomes less sensitive. You must abstain from ALL sexual activity for an average of six weeks. Some men like the final result but others complain of loss of sensation and miss being able to slide their foreskin over the glans. Circumcised guys often have little or no movable skin left and are forced to masturbate using lube or rubbing dry, without the loose skin. There is no going back if you don’t like the result.
A new study has shown real differences in fine touch sensitivity between circumcised and intact penises and that the most sensitive parts of the intact penis are those that would be removed by circumcision.
Many women who get to interact sexually with an intact penis prefer the natural state. Don’t do this to yourself just to fit in. Be proud of your whole and natural body.
Phimosis can nearly always be cured by stretching. See the second link below to detailed instructions on how to do this.

There are several possibilities here. One is that your foreskin is still partially fused to the glans. This is NOT phimosis, but a normal developmental stage which may not pass until 18 or older. You certainly do not need circumcision for this!

Even if you have actual phimosis, circumcision is a last resort. Usually gentle stretching in the shower, possibly combined with hormone cream, will take care of the tightness much faster than a circumcision would heal, and you'll still have a pleasure-giving foreskin. Sometimes you need to change the way you masturbate: http://www.cirp.org/library/treatment/phimosis/beauge2/

I assume you are in the US, because doctors in most other countries would never recommend circumcision in cases like yours. Today's doctors were born during the period when nearly all American boys were circumcised at birth, so they are not used to dealing with a natural penis. (And the procedure is quick and profitable for them.)

Do some searching on this site for postings on phimosis and read what Jorge says -- he's a knowledgable guy who's had personal experience with this problem. But getting cut at 14 is a REALLY bad idea; don't consent to it.

I think circumcision should be your LAST option. Like previous posters have said, there are cheaper and still effective ways to deal with this that don't cost you your foreskin. Your foreskin contains alot of nerves that you won't ever get back. It contains the most sensitive parts of the penis. Circed men often find that thier most sensitive part is the circumcision scar. Ask your doctor about using a cream to help loosen your foreskin, or try some stretching exercises. If they don't work you will still have the option of circumcision, but at least you will have tried everything. Also give it some time, you are still young and hopefully it will be some time before you become sexually active, your foreskin may just need more time to seperate from your glans and develope. Even if stretching and creams DON"T work for you, there are much less drastic surgical options than foreskin removal that are equally effective. I would not reccomend a circumcision as a first option. And don't let anyone tell you its cleaner or healthier, because its not. And tons of women prefer intact men, and any woman willing to judge you based on your penis isn't worth your time, so don't let that concern you either. Seriously, keep the skin. -Neb

Have you tried stretching, creams or waiting if the glans is still fused to the foreskin? At 14 you can't really have phimosis because a tight or attached foreskin is normal and unless you are having constant pain/severe trouble urinating then I doubt you need circumcision. In fact circumcision should be a last resort, even if things are bad there is still another option like a dorsal cut. I suggest you seek a second opinion because I really don't think you need this done.

First things first, circumcision is not your only option. There are creams and ointments your doctor can give you to help relieve phimosis so you can retract the foreskin. You can try stretching exercises in the shower to stretch your foreskin. Use hot water, to promote stretching, and then pull your foreskin back as far as it will go without too much pain. Let it return to natural position, and do it repeatedly. If you continue doing this every time you shower, you should notice it's getting more flexible. When you can retract your foreskin while out of the shower, you should be alright. There are side effects to circumcision, such as the loss of sensation in your penis. The foreskin is home to a multitude of nerves, and removing it removes all those nerves that would otherwise give you pleasure. Also, if you get circumcised, your newly exposed head will lose sensation as well, from constant rubbing against the cloth of your undies or pants. Try the stretching exercises, and if that doesn't work, check with your doctor first about creams for phimosis, as it is cheaper than surgery.

I was 18 when I was circumcised! Really no big deal! It was done in office with a local. It was done on a Friday afternoon and I was back in class on Monday! Healing was quick with no complications. It was all well worth it! The foreskin is over rated and most posters just parrot what they find on anti site which have all been proven to be lies over and over again. It is cleaner and much healthier to be circumcised! There is no lose of sensativity, actually I believe sex is much better !

Good luck!
