If he can't answer you, it doesn't mean he can't hear you.

If your boyfriend usually takes care of his father or assists with caring for his father, sit in with him at first. Ask to keep your boyfriend company as he cares for him.

Suggest that your boyfriend (if he doesn't already) talk with your father while you're caring for him. Talk about the weather, the news, take in a news paper or magazine and chat. Find out what his interests are (were) and chat about those.

"So, Robert, I hear you like fishing. I've gone fishing with my Grandpa, we caught a rainbow trout on Lake Wichita... Have you ever been to Lake Wichita? It's not far from Wichita KS, and has the best bait and tackle shop right outside the city..."

Basically, pretend he can still answer and ask him questions. People that are in a coma still have brain activity, and can hear you. It's just like sleeping.

He does not have to be able to answer you. Go and meet him and tell him that you are glad you have finally met him. Tell him about yourself and about your plans. You will make the mans day.

Go and talk to him even if he can't answer. He would probably like the company. You won't know til you try. Good Luck!
