I see what you mean Duirmid, but if she was at breaking point she could have even just left them at a neighbours and literally run away...anything but suffocate them one by one....

this is just so sad, its very hard to read when I have two young boys and absolutely adore them, they have mental health issues so I do not know what they were going through and what was going through minds, someone should have stepped in taken the children away before this tragedy happened. If not a family member social services, theres plenty of people who cannot have children and deserve them, then you get parents killing theirs and taking away a precious life.

She had 5 very young boys.
Where was the father or rest of the family, did she get any help?
Did she have a mental health condition prior to this family, and did the strain of looking after all these children prove to much for her. IMO I could not possibly condemn her, if that is the case. She reached her breaking point. How very, very sad.
Some women have children, when perhaps they should not. Not all people are cut out to be parents, it is a very difficult, demanding job. With 5 young children anybody would have been hard pushed without any help.

P.S. Grumple - I understand you there, but I think it may have been a mental health breakdown and if that is the case then she would not have that logic I am afraid.

Seriously mentally ill people or those who suffer psychotic breaks can't think rationally like the rest of us. Normal people get stressed out and get outside help to cope (babysitter, talk to friends, etc.). They haven't lost empathy for others. A normal person has a conscience in place and intact, despite pressures. Someone who is sick mentally and emotionally, suffering psychosis, they see the child as an object that is getting in their way somehow, and that emotional disconnection makes it easier to kill them. Really sad, isn't it?

Morning, ah the sad thing was that the social workers were due to visit today, if she could have just waited and asked for a break.....
I think she may have just snapped, Grumples, you can't put a reasonable argument on it, when things get that bad, she couldn't think straight.
I am sure she will commit suicide soon.

To me its a good argument FOR abortions. These mothers I'm sure didn't want any of these children before giving birth or had obvious mental problems that others should have noticed. I would rather see the baby die in the womb then be put through years of abuse and neglect and often torture.
