We do not select a painful life. But, often, we make foolish choices that causes life to be painful.....not quite the same thing.
For me, life is gloriously fulfilling!!

That's such a great question. I agree with the first answer, "Scared of the unknown." But, I don't understand it, neither do you, I guess. I've liked this one girl for a long time and she and I see each other all the time, we're very close. But when she broke up with her boyfriend, I did nothing about it. And she started seeing someone else. Then one drunken night she tells me how she felt about me, but the next day she told me she only wanted to be with this one guy. If only I hadn't been scared and had gone after her earlier, then I'd be happy now. But I was truly "scared of the unknown."

Life isn't painful. Its the choices we make without so much as weighing the consequences BEFORE we act that makes life painful and hard to deal with.

Some people do not realize how strong and resilient that they really are. They are unsure of themselves and what is to be. They lack confidence and sometimes are afraid that they might end up worse off than they are now.

some people choose to be miserable. they enjoy making everyone around them miserable too. this makes them happier then being loving and kind. they really enjoy being that way---just the same as a happy person enjoys how they live.

Because oftentimes we are more devoted to our own personal happiness, in the moment, than to anyone's continuing happiness, even our own.
