If the black on the face of my radio and on the edges of a couple of the buttons is wearing off already,is that something that would be covered under warranty? (it's one of the radios that has XM built in,if that matters at all...?)

There's a chance GM will replace the buttons under warranty, just take it to your dealer. If it's considered normal wear and you have to pay for them to be replaced, they aren't expensive.

No, its just another cheap POS GM vehicle, that was poorly built. My 06 cobalt just underwent a transmission rebuilt at 16,000 miles, and all I do is drive it 30 miles to work every once in a while. After that its parked until my new Toyota Tundra comes in supposed to be 2nd week of January, then the Cobalt is going away. I'm now driving my 96 jeep grand cherokee and pushing 189,500 miles on it, pretty sad when an old jeep outlasts a new car. Course I guess the Chevrolet name should have been a good indicator that it wouldn't last more than 17,000 miles.
