also does any body know the life span of monarch caterpillars? how many days in general before the coccoon???

Monarch eggs hatch in about 4 days and grow as a monarch caterpillar after about 14 days. The caterpillar thereafter stay inside a cocoon for about 10 days more before finally turning as a beautiful Monarch butterfly which usually lives for 14 - 45 days or longer.
