I mean come on it is paintfully obvious that espn only covers the sports that they show on their channels. They talk about the same football teams, the same baseball teams, and they cover basketball relentlessly.
It is annoying as a sports fan to see the same old crap over and over again on ESPN. I think it would be good to have hockey games back on mainstream TV, a real tough guy sport unlike basketball or baseball.
Tom Brady will cough, and ESPN will be there with a microphone.
THERE IS MORE TO SPORTS THAN WHAT LEBRON JAMES HAD FOR DINNER!!!!!!
but yeah do you think they will ever pick it back up, or is the NHL doomed to sub par coverage forever?

ESPN low-balled the NHL, so the NHL went with the bigger payout. ESPN would rather show darts, chess, spelling bees, dominoes, poker, bowling, bull riding, and the WNBA. The "S" in ESPN should be removed. Coming soon, the World Air Guitar Championship from Finland!
The coverage on Versus is fine with me. It's very easy to find if you know how to use a remote. NHL.com will even tell you what channel it's on in your area. I like the fact that VS. repeats the game the next day, something ESPN rarely did.

Hockey is a really fun and exciting game but it has lost so much interest in the past few years. The biggest reason was the lockout. The lockout caused a whole lot of fans to leave hockey for good and the ratings dropped. ESPN won't show something not well liked because they can't get sponsors for commercials to pay for things.

I havent heard much about it lately, but a few months ago there were rumors that ESPN wanted to bring back the NHL for next season. There would have to be a deal made with Versus since they will still hold the broadcasting rights, but it is a serious possibility that it will happen next year. At least it was the last I heard.

There just missing out on the fastest game ever played. The VS channel is actually getting way more views and better ratings than ESPN did when were covering hockey.

I like watching hockey on VS, I just wish they televised more games.
Hockey highlights are on ESPN, the games may come back to ESPN if it financially beneficial to ESPN and that mean higher ratings and companies willing to advertise during the games.

Not as long as they get better ratings from the 2004 World Series of Poker.
Maybe if the Boston Bruins become the next Red Sox/Patriots and Hartford gets another NHL team, they'll think about it.

Those who say VS is doing a better job are correct. I would much rather watch a game on VS than ESPN.

NHL will have to swallow their pride and lower the price of the package or ESPN will never have it again...NHL was wanting pre-lockout price post lockout is why its not on ESPN now

I watch ESPN SportsCenter every morning, and they show every goal in the NHL and every fight. During the sports on a Canadian channel, I don't always get that.

Coverage isn't too bad on Versus. Wish they played more games though, you'd think they would rather play hockey than pro bull riding.
