For each, the mean is the sum of elements, divided by the number of elements.

12,b,17;mean:14
(12 + b + 17)/3 = 14, Multiply both sides by 3
12 + b + 17 = 42
b + 29 = 42
b = 13

7,8,8,b;mean:8
(7+8+8+b)/4 = 8
7+8+8+b = 32
23+b=32
b=9

1,1,2,4,5,b,10,10;mean:5
(1+1+2+4+5+b+10+10)/8 = 5
1+1+2+4+5+b+10+10 = 40
33+b = 40
b=7

76,77,77,b,86,88,91;mean:82
(76+77+77+b+86+88+91)/7=82
76+77+77+b+86+88+91= 574
495+b=574
b=79

(12+b+17)/3 = 14 --> b = 13
(7+8+8+b)/4 = 8 --> b = 9
(1+1+2+4+5+b+10+10)/8 = 5 --> b = 7
(76+77+77+b+86+88+91)/7 = 82 --> b = 79
