Start a recycling center at your school. Collect soda cans, paper, plastic, etc. Some places will pay you for them and you could buy something for the school.

Ask permission to have an organic garden somewhere on school grounds and grow food for the cafeteria.

Invite environmental experts to speak at your school. Ask them about other things you can do.

You could adopt stretch of highway and keep it clean (as many organizations do); you could sponsor a showing of An Inconvenient Truth; you could take part in a recyclng program--lobby to start one if your community doesn't already have one, or work with the project if one already exists. You could set up recycling containers around school--and monitor them, beause no matter how hard you try, people WILL put trash in them. (You might discourage this practice by putting cartoons in the school paper about those who do it. You could also put a recycling container in each homeroom [raising the funds for them can be a project in itself] and offer a monthly prize or certificate to the room that does the best job.) You can plant trees, and you can go around turning out unnecessary lights. (I just got up and turned out one in the next room.)
