Dont bother retaining a lawyer for this. The fees would be outrageous. If he has already paid he has already paid. This sort of thing has happend to me befor. It works out to be an expensive life lesson. This lesson is free. 1 find out about your problem. Most good mechanics can guage apporoximately what is wrong with your car just by listening to your description of your problem. 2 contact no less the 10 mechanics most good mechanics can give you a rough estimate right over the phone. 3 Ask questions and ask whoever you can chances someone has delt with a similar problem as you and can give you the info you need. 4 Get a haynes manual even if there is no way you will tackle the problem yourself it will give you the knowlege to deal with mechanics. Cars are not as complicated as people think and even rudimentry knowlege of your vehical can save huge $$$$.

Well, the first thing to do is to get a bill from the second garage for the brake repair and sue the first garage for that and the attorney fees. Ask that second garage if there is any way that the broken motor mount could have been caused by the first garage because perhaps they expected you to return there to get that fixed when the brakes went bad! also, report the garage to the better business bureau to save others from dealing with them and having the same problems you did.

$4,000 is very exessive for a brake job unless they replaced the Anti-Lock Brake pump unit, they can be very expensive but it still depends on what other things they did. Of course they still should have replaced the rotors if they were under spec. The only legal thing you could do is try and sue them but this will probably wind up a fruitless effort. It's hard to find a honest and skilled mechanic.

There's nothing he can do. Repairs in the past don't have anything to do with problems that occur in the future. You fix what breaks. It doesn't matter what broke before now, you just keep fixing when things break.
However, you'd have to be an idiot to pay $4000 for brake work, even on a Ferrari. That simply can't be true.

$4000 for repairs????????????? Sorry but did he authorize that work while he was in a coma? You need to give more info, like make / model / year. Also what was it in for in the first place? $4k is not minor repair work, that is serious , Do I fix or scrap the van time.

this is why you ALWAYS get a written estimate BEFORE any work is done. There is no way a brake job cost that much.
