Well, they said almost nothing about the 19 year-old cop who did the Crandon, Wis. massacre.
The "news" certainly is selective when they want to be.

The old saying is, "If it bleeds, it leads".
I always wonder why the news picks certain events to highlight not others. It seems we always hear about a young white girl when they go missing, but what about the hundreds of other missing people that day.
According to the FBI about 45 people are murdered each day in the country. Can you imagine if the news media reported on each one of those?
I don't think the media is feeding the maniac though. They would still do it, because the word of mouth would get around even if we didn't have the news media. People went berserk long before the TV camera was invented. People want to know.

They should report it. But, I stress the word "report". That means giving the viewing audience the facts instead of "breaking news" which is all too often "faking news". Reporting also means avoiding the instances of having "experts" on (who couldn't find places like Omaha on the map) to make endless speculations on assumptions.
I for one grieve at what happened. I've had the good fortune to meet quite a few residents of Omaha when they travel west with the Triple-A Omaha Royals to play my team in Las Vegas. Decent people died for no reason.

that's true. i live in omaha as well, and it seems like the news has been on non-stop today. but i think it is something we'll inevitably find out- i mean, you can't not notice a commotion at westroads. it's the media's job to tell us what's happening, especially for safety concerns. however, i'm not sure we need this extent of media coverage.

Irresponsible of the media. yet having pronounced that they do no longer look to be probably seeking to help society. rankings could be their purpose.

Agree completely. Airing his name and picture gives him the attention in death he failed to get in life fueling more hideous crimes. The media is responsible as an accesory for every massacre after Columbine. Makes me sad that this is what we call news.

Maybe it should be be the local areas and kept out of national news. There is no reason for the whole nation to hear about it.
