Yep, the movie, both versions, really sucked. However, King Solomon's Mines happens to be one of my favorite novels.

Bear in mind I don't have the book in front of me, so I'm going from memory.

Twala and Gagool were described as being gross and ugly. Twala being huge, and fat with gross and leering feature. Though fat, he was also muscular and possessing great strength and personal courage, as well as being cruel, cunning and murderously treacherous.

Gagool, the Witchfinder, was a wizened crone, bent, twisted, of ruinously great age, and evil beyond comprehension. IIRC she was described as being virtually bald. She gave indications that she might be over 200 years old, but Quartermain was unsure if she spoke the truth, or if she was telling a tale passed on by an ancestress. However, the letter from Senhor Da Silva, in the 17th Century enjoined any who came behind him to kill Gagool.

To differentiate their speech, Haggard rendered Twala's and the other native's speech into a near Elizabethan form, being very formal and somewhat stilted.

If you haven't read the book, do yourself a favor and read it. It is a helluva good tale of high adventure. Some might say it is a bit cliched, but you must remember that many of the cliches developed from Haggard's writings, they were not cliches when Haggard used them.

till you referred to as somebody a moron for not something i replaced into going to answer you exact. He pronounced Indiana Jones, did not say it replaced into greater beneficial than Haggards artwork in any respect. And that is genuine that the crappy richard chambelain action picture of King Solomon's Mines replaced into an Indiana Jones scam, they only used an extremely certainly comparable tale (adventurer interior the wilds searching for treasure and coping with natives) and filled it packed with stunts (and that RIDICULOUS thirty-foot cooking pot they are put in... for one, the place did they save their hangar-sized kiln, and what have been they making with 500,000 gallons of water, some vegetables and a couple of human beings? the main vulnerable soup ever made?) The books have been solid, yet discover ways to determine a respond in the previous you harm the communicate board regulations by potential of answering lower back like a toddler.
