Gosh durn it. I thought naming a boy after a federal prison might be just the ticket. OK, back to the drawing board...

Naw - I'm not looking for gullibility. Actually I'm more interested, from a sociological perspective, exactly HOW people select names and how certain names have popularity to that wanes over time. Isn't it interesting the instantaneous emotional reaction -- good or bad -- people have to certain names? Is it worse to name a baby after a cheese or after a washed up pop diva with a drug habit? Not sure -- but I thank you for indulging my curiosity.

Beaumont (sounds like a car)
Coleman (Gary Coleman???)
Cumberland (Land of Cucumbers comes to mind for some reason)
Danbury (Sounds like some fruit or type of horse)
Forrest (Life is like a box of chocolates...)
Jesup (catsup or ketchup???)
Manchester (City in England, sounds snobby)
McKean (I actually think it's not half bad)
Memphis (Tennessee, family trees are flag poles)
Sheridan (a street name and sounds like a car name as well)
Talladega (WTF??)
Carswell (makes me think of Roswell)
Devens (ok...?)
Eglin (WTF #2)
Leavenworth (sounds like a sausage almost)
Montgomery ( Mr. Burns,"Excellent....")

Did you get these names from the sporting goods section?

Cumberland Berl? will be called cumberbun
Danbury (“Dan” for short) maybe
Forrest will be called Gump
Jesup (“Jesse”) Jesse is okay
Manchester might be called Chester
McKean (“Mack” or “Kean”) Mckenzie (sp)
Memphis will be called Elvis or Graceland
Sheridan (will be called Sheri?)
Talladega will be called NASCAR
Carswell Carl but will be called "all's well"

Eglin will be called eggy
Leavenworth will be called "prison"

Are you seriously thinking about naming a real child with any of those names or is this just a pretend question?

If you really are genuine then I would have to warn you against it as the child not only has to live with this name for their entire life but it could severely impact on self-esteem and social relations. Out of that entire list there is nothing appropriate or nice at all.

Blossom, are you bored? Hee hee.

The only one I like is Beau. I do have a friend that used Montgomery as a middle name for her son though; that was kind of neat, but I'm glad it was the middle name and not the first name. Oh, and I also know a Forrest. I can't say that I care for it though.

From a Dad of three boys 7,6,3. Chose what ever you're most comfortable yelling. If it takes to long, the kid will be into the next problem before you can blink. If I had to pick one, it would be Devens but drop the s, make it Deven.

Well, I like Sheridan the best out of the boys names. I think Cumberland is not a good choice because if I am correct there is a cumberland brand of something. I am not sure exactaly what it is of.

I would personally steer clear of brand names (Coleman, Cumberland) , surnames (McKean), places/businesses (Sheridan, Talladega), and things like Forest.
No one wants 2 last names or to be named after a lamp
