I think the high divorce rate is primarily contributed to immature behaviors and attitudes of many Americans. Since the military develops self-discipline and respect, which are two qualities that are seriously deficient in America, I think the divorce rate will go much lower because many more Americans will respect and love their significant other much more and will develop more self-discipline, which would help prevent them from cheating or doing anything else stupid.
Also, after being in boot camp for a long time and being deprived of female companions, I developed a more heartful respectful for women. I don't know why, I guess when as a guy you go through such a painful experience for so long without women it makes you appreciate them more. Kind of like how you appreciate a nice, warm meal after going on a hunger strike.
I could be very wrong, and most people (including me) would think that this is a crazy idea. But I'm just curious to know what you guys would think about it.

No it would not. Being a military spouse takes a special type of person. As an army wive I've had to be selfless. I've had to understand that the army comes first. I've had to be both mom and dad at times. I've had to keep going when all I wanted to do was cry. Yes having my husband away does make me appreciate him more. I just don't think most people could handle the pressure of military life.

Ok first there are women in the military here so men are not going that long without being around women. Also there is a huge problem with cheating in the military. And with the way things are right now spouses are having to be apart all the time which is causing marital problems.
Divorce and Infidelity are in the military as well so I don't think making people join is going to help anyone.

I am a girl and I think you are nuts! I don't believe in the military and the way they use our children to fight the battles of the rich politician's.
Your dad should have trained you to respect women and mom should train their daughters to have more self respect.
The main reason for our higher divorce rate is because there are women in the workforce seducing married men and women making big bucks so they just need a mans sperm to have "everything".

Not unless both spouses were in the army. You have to remember that in most marriages, only one spouse is often drafted into the military leaving one open to temptations. It really depends on the maturity and character of both spouses but I think it will only increase the divorce rates.

mandatory military service means spouses being apart from each other, which is not good, for a marriage, epsically a newlywed!!!! i think it means more affairs, and cheating.
{add} well if your talking about just a couple weeks, or months of training it wont do any harm, but if were talking about training , then war, its a different story!!!

do you know how many military families fall apart?? i know from first hand, my husband was in the military, and about every one we know/knew has gotten divorced or came extremely close to it. men seem to turn into assholes after they join the military and their excuse is "thats what basic training does to you, it toughens you up" or it "brainwashes" them. btw, i would like a divorce from my husband too. i think it would be better if all men joining the military stayed single.
