I think you are asking for either Ferdinand Foch's counter-offensive on the Marne or Haig's great attack on the 8th of August, 1918 '- the black day of the German Army - the breaking of the Hindenburg line and the pursuit of the German Army.

The American seizure of the Argonne. This was THE position the Germans could not afford to lose. Haig's offensive took ground the Germans could afford to cede in a fighting retreat. Loss of the Argonne caused Ludendorf to lose his nerve.
