Yes, because if you're texting, and not keeping your eyes on the road, you can easily crash. You're trying to call someone, and everything you do on the cell phone can easily cause a preventable accident. Think about it. If we didn't have cell phones, people would be more aware of their surroundings while driving and they wouldn't be focusing on something else besides the road that's in the car.

It's kind of silly to legislate what goes on inside a vehicle, except for the fact that it's been proven that most people can't talk on the phone and drive safely at the same time. For this reason, some legislation is in order. I think using a cell phone while driving should be an offense if the person is holding the phone in their hand. I think hands-free phones and voice-activated phones which are not being held in the driver's hand and are attached to the inside of the vehicle should be exempt. To me, that's no more dangerous than having passengers in the car or changing radio channels or the CD.

People are finding too many things to do behind the wheel besides drive. Dialing a phone, sending a text message, eating a banana split, whatever ....all these things take our attention away from the task at hand. I think getting the message out about pulling over to answer a phone or do whatever is important but it needs to have consequences if you don't do what is safe. Yes...I believe in ticketing those who use the phone while behind the wheel.

i do no longer think of its the somewhat speaking on a telephone that impedes a driving force however the dialing of numbers and attempting to deliver text cloth messages does take a drivers interest removed from the line for short sessions of time. i do no longer think it could be a ticketable offense till a twist of destiny is led to by using using 1.

Yes! Distracted driving causes more accidents in this country than alcohol, though alcohol related deaths are higher. If you need to talk to someone that badly, find someplace to pull over. Don't eat, apply makeup, read' or any other thing that takes away your concentration.

No. Not for cell phone use. Maybe for a secondary cause such as careless driving or causing a wreck. I drive better when I am on my cell phone but I rarely talk on it while i am driving.

Probably so. It has been proven to cause accidents. While I am not sure if this is a good idea it has been adapted by a lot of cities. I think fined for texting would be more appropriate.

only if there is a similar law for fiddling with your radio or any other distraction. any distraction is bad. i happen to think changing a CD or radio station is more distracting than talking on a phone (not dialing).
